Easton EC70 Carbon Clincher Review
For years Easton have been the driving force in innovative, lighter and stronger biking components with every wheelset hand built from start to finish, Easton are dedicated to producing some of the best competitive racing wheels today and see each individual product acquiring the same amount of attention and dedication to ensure the cyclist has the very best. And the very best elements of Easton’s designs can be seen in the Easton EC70, which combines the weight and stiffness benefits of carbon with the resilience and handiness of aluminium clincher, making a very versatile wheel. The Easton EC70 wheels are 700c, with the front wheel weighing 772 grams, while the rear weighs 918 grams; together the pair weighs 1690 grams producing a light wheelset.
The wheelset features the C3 series hubs both on the front and rear, with a precision sealed cartridge bearing with asymmetrical, low drag seals, creating a smooth, low maintenance and long lasting hub, while the black anodised finish provide the wheels with a sleek finish. In addition, the wheelset feature an all alloy Cassette Body with an oversized inboard ratchet mechanism with three pawls, as well as a Gen4 Easton carbon/aluminium hybrid clincher. These are the features which make the Easton EC70 a special set of wheels, while the welded machine brake surface guarantee direct and effective braking with standard brake pads in all weather condition, adding a level of reassurance for cyclists during sharp declines.
The Sapim spokes ensure a rigid wheel, while the 38mm front and rear rims are very smooth and coupled with the high tension of spokes promise fast acceleration. Tester certify that there was little flex during fast acceleration and they were unaffected during forceful crosswinds. Lastly, the wheels are Shimano, Campagnolo and SRAM 8/9/10 speed compatible. The Easton EC70 are a revelation and possess plenty of advanced features which will improve the performance of any cyclist.
